Review: Joe was good you got in its U.S. premiere at Austin's SXSW Film Festival. David Gordon Green's film based on Larry Brown's novels, was filmed locally in his area of ââAustin. The film is dark, gloomy, intense and most in all depressing. The story of a local foreman wood? Joe - who is trying to save a 15-year-old and a chalutye abusive alcoholic father is violent and disturbing and we know from the start that there is no way that it really ended. I found the film a little too dark and too slowly as it moves to what seems like an inevitable end. I think it could use some editing to speed, pace a bit. Acting by Nicholas Cage as a supervisor Tye Sheridan and young? Fresh from success Matthew McConaughey together in mud? is excellent. On a way that it turns people into mud where characters Tye Sheridan is trying to save this man's old; Joe, the situation is the other way around. The film is difficult to watch at times, and it's hard to call fun, but the story is still strong. It's hard to imagine that such a dark film will achieve very Cinematic success. Green often throw the locals in the film with him. In a sad but perhaps appropriate impact, Green threw a local homeless man, Gary Poulter, playing the important role of the father's alcoholic beverages. Poulter streets of Austin died two months after the end of the filming. It is a powerful film, but I doubt I will ever ever want to see it again. |
